What a nakshatra is

A nakshatra is the Moon's station: the one of 27 star groups along its path that it is passing through now. Each spans 13°20′ of the ecliptic and is divided into four quarters (padas).

The Moon crosses about one nakshatra a day. The nakshatra at the moment of birth is called the Janma Nakshatra.
