Question 1

How is Sankashti different from Vinayaki Chaturthi?

Accepted Answer

Sankashti Chaturthi is observed on the Krishna (dark) Paksha Chaturthi; Vinayaki Chaturthi falls on the Shukla (bright) Paksha Chaturthi. Both are Ganesha vratas, but Sankashti is the more widely observed of the two.

Question 2

Can Sankashti Chaturthi be observed without the moonrise ritual?

Accepted Answer

Traditionally, sighting the moon at night is the definitive closing act of the fast. If the moon is not visible (due to cloud cover), devotees can wait for a brief period and then break the fast after performing the puja.
