वैष्णव जन तो तेणे कहिये जे पीड़ित पराई जाणे रे। पर दुःखे उपकार करे तो ये मन अभिमान न आणे रे॥
सच्चा वैष्णव (ईश्वर का प्रिय जन) वही है जो दूसरों के दुख-दर्द को अपनी पीड़ा समझकर अनुभव करता है। वह दूसरों के दुख को दूर करके उपकार तो करता है, किंतु अपने मन में रंचमात्र भी अहंकार या अभिमान नहीं लाता।
A true Vaishnava (godly soul) is one who deeply feels and understands the suffering of others. He reaches out to relieve another's distress, yet never harbors even a trace of pride or ego in his heart.
सकल लोक माँ सहु ने वंदे निंदा न करे केनी रे। वाच काछ मन निश्चल राखे धन-धन जननी तेनी रे॥
वह संसार के सभी जीवों का आदर-सत्कार करता है और कभी किसी की निंदा नहीं करता। जिसकी वाणी, आचरण (चारित्र्य) और मन निर्मल व निश्चल हैं, उसकी माता धन्य और वंदनीय है।
He respects every living being in the world and refrains from criticizing anyone. The mother of one whose speech, character, and mind remain pure and steadfast is truly blessed.
समदृष्टि ने तृष्णा त्यागी परस्त्री जेने मात रे। जिह्वा थकी असत्य न बोले परधन नव झाले हाथ रे॥
वह सभी के प्रति समभाव रखता है, तृष्णा (लालसा) का त्याग कर चुका है और पर-स्त्री को माता के समान समझता है। उसकी जिह्वा कभी असत्य नहीं बोलती और वह पराए धन पर कभी अपना हाथ नहीं बढ़ाता।
He views all beings with equal vision, has renounced selfish desires, and regards all women as his mother. His tongue never utters untruth, and his hands never touch another's wealth.
