Can we eat amla on this day?

Amla is considered especially sacred and beneficial on this day. Amla can be eaten as prasad (offered first to Vishnu) after the fast is broken. Some traditions allow amla juice even during the fast.

Is this vrat before Holi?

Yes — Amalaki Ekadashi falls on Phalguna Shukla Ekadashi, four days before Holi (Phalguna Purnima). It marks the approach of the spring season and the imminent end of winter.
