Why is no fire lit on Sheetala Saptami?

Sheetala Mata is the goddess of coolness. Lighting fire on her day is considered displeasing to her. Eating cold food (Basoda) symbolises keeping the body cool and free from fever.

What is Basoda prasad?

Basoda is the cold, day-old food prepared on the eve of the vrat. It typically includes roti, rice, kanji, poori, halwa and other dishes prepared the previous evening and offered to Sheetala Mata.
