Sampurna Katha

सूत उवाच— प्रदोषकाले महद्देवं ये पूजयन्ति मानवाः। न तेषां दुर्लभं किञ्चिद् इह लोके परत्र च॥ पूजिते शङ्करे देवे प्रदोषे नृपसत्तम। दारिद्र्यं शमनं याति पापानि सुमहन्त्यपि॥

Suta Ji said— Those humans who worship the Supreme Lord Shiva during Pradosh Kaal (evening twilight) find nothing unattainable in this world or the next. O Noble King! सूत जी ने कहा— जो मनुष्य प्रदोष काल (सूर्यास्त के समय) में देवाधिदेव भगवान शिव का पूजन करते हैं, उनके लिए इस लोक और परलोक में कुछ भी दुर्लभ नहीं रहता। हे राजन्! प्रदोष काल में भगवान शंकर की पूजा करने से घोर दरिद्रता का नाश होता है और बड़े से बड़े पापों का शमन हो जाता है। (आज के प्रदोष मुहूर्त हेतु हमारी प्रदोष व्रत गाइड [Pradosh Observance](/festival/pradosh) देखें)।

पुरा विदर्भनगरे विधवा ब्राह्मणी गृहे। पुत्रेण सहिता दीना भिक्षां कृत्वा व्यजीवत्॥ शाण्डिल्यमुनिना दृष्टा प्रदोषव्रतमादिशत्। व्रतप्रभावात्पुत्रोऽयं राजकुमार्यमवाप्तवान्॥

In ancient times in Vidarbha, a poor widowed Brahmin woman lived by begging alongside her young son. Maharshi Shandilya observed her plight and instructed her in the Pradosh Vrat. The woman and her son observed the fast with complete faith, through which the boy achieved royal status and wedded a princess.

प्राचीन काल में विदर्भ नगर में एक निर्धन विधवा ब्राह्मणी अपने छोटे बालक के साथ भिक्षा मांगकर जीवन व्यतीत करती थी। महर्षि शांडिल्य ने उसकी दयनीय दशा देखकर उसे प्रदोष व्रत का उपदेश दिया। ब्राह्मणी और उसके पुत्र ने पूर्ण श्रद्धा से प्रदोष व्रत किया, जिसके प्रभाव से बालक को राजपद और राजकुमारी से विवाह का सौभाग्य प्राप्त हुआ।

कैलासशैले नवविप्रगेहे प्रदोषकाले हरिसिद्धसेविते। नृत्यत्यथो शम्भुमुदा महेशः सर्वे च देवाः प्रणमन्ति भक्त्या॥

During Pradosh Kaal, Lord Shiva performs His cosmic Anand Tandava dance upon Mount Kailash with great delight. At that sacred twilight hour, Brahma, Vishnu, Indra, and all celestial deities gather to offer prayers. Thus, Shiva worship during Pradosh is of infinite spiritual merit.

प्रदोष काल में भगवान शिव कैलाश पर्वत पर अत्यंत प्रसन्नचित्त होकर आनंद तांडव नृत्य करते हैं। उस समय ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, इंद्र आदि समस्त देवी-देवता भगवान शिव की स्तुति और वंदना करते हैं। इसलिए प्रदोष काल की शिव पूजा अनंत फलदायी मानी गई है।

ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा, स्वामी जय शिव ओंकारा। ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, सदाशिव, अर्द्धांगी धारा॥ ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥

Glory to You, O Lord Shiva, embodiment of Om! You manifest as Brahma, Vishnu, and Sadashiva, holding Mother Parvati as half of Your divine form.

हे ओमकार स्वरूप भगवान शिव! आपकी जय हो। आप ही ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और सदाशिव के रूप हैं, और माता पार्वती को अपने आधे अंग में धारण करते हैं।

एकानन चतुरानन पंचानन राजे। स्वामी पंचानन राजे। हंसासन गरुड़ासन वृषवाहन साजे॥ ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥

You reign as the single-faced (Vishnu), four-faced (Brahma), and five-faced (Shiva) Lord. Associated with the swan, Garuda, and Nandi the bull, You embody all celestial mounts.

आप एक मुख वाले (विष्णु), चार मुख वाले (ब्रह्मा) और पांच मुख वाले (शिव) रूप में सुशोभित हैं। हंस, गरुड़ और नंदी वृषभ आपके स्वरूपों के वाहन हैं।

दो भुज चार चतुर्भुज दसभुज अति सोहे। स्वामी दसभुज अति सोहे। त्रिगुण रूप निरखते त्रिभुवन जन मोहे॥ ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥

Your forms with two, four, and ten arms shine with magnificence. Gazing upon Your form that controls the three cosmic qualities, beings across all three worlds are enchanted.

आपकी दो, चार और दस भुजाओं वाले स्वरूप अत्यंत सुशोभित होते हैं। आपके तीनों गुणों से युक्त स्वरूप को देखकर तीनों लोकों के प्राणी मोहित हो जाते हैं।

अक्षमाला वनमाला मुंडमाला धारी। स्वामी मुंडमाला धारी। त्रिपुरारि कंसारि मदहारी मारी॥ ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥

You wear garlands of rudraksha beads, wild flowers, and sacred skulls. As Tripurari, You destroyed the demon Tripurasura and vanquished pride and delusion.

आप रुद्राक्ष की माला, वनमाला और मुंडों की माला धारण करते हैं। आप त्रिपुरासुर का नाश करने वाले, दैत्यों का अंत करने वाले और अहंकार का मर्दन करने वाले हैं।

श्वेतांबर पीतांबर बाघंबर अंगे। स्वामी बाघंबर अंगे। सनकादिक गरुणादिक भूतादिक संगे॥ ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥

You are draped in white garments, yellow robes, and tiger skin. The sage Sanaka, celestial beings, and Your divine ganas remain ever in Your presence.

आप श्वेतांबर, पीतांबर और बाघ की छाल (बाघंबर) धारण करते हैं। सनकादि ऋषि, गरुड़ और भूत-गण सदैव आपके संग रहते हैं।

कर के मध्य कमंडलु चक्र त्रिशूल धरता। स्वामी चक्र त्रिशूल धरता। जगकर्ता जगहर्ता जगपालनकर्ता॥ ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥

You hold the water pot, the discus, and the trident in Your hands. You are the creator, sustainer, and dissolver of the universe.

आप अपने हाथों में कमंडलु, चक्र और त्रिशूल धारण करते हैं। आप ही इस जगत् की रचना करने वाले, पालन करने वाले और संहार करने वाले हैं।

ब्रह्मा विष्णु सदाशिव जानत अविवेका। स्वामी जानत अविवेका। प्रणवाक्षर के मध्ये ये तीनों एका॥ ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥

The uninformed perceive Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva as separate entities. In truth, within the sacred syllable Om, all three are one unified Supreme Consciousness.

अज्ञानी मनुष्य ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और शिव को पृथक् मानते हैं। वास्तव में, ओंकार (प्रणव) के भीतर ये तीनों त्रिदेव एक ही परम तत्त्व हैं।

काशी में विश्वनाथ विराजे नंदी ब्रह्मचारी। स्वामी नंदी ब्रह्मचारी। नित्य उठ दर्शन पावे महिमा अति भारी॥ ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥

In Kashi You reside as Lord Vishwanath, with Nandi the celibate at Your doorway. Beholding You daily bestows immense glory and divine merit.

काशी में भगवान विश्वनाथ के रूप में आप विराजमान हैं और नंदी ब्रह्मचारी आपके द्वार पर विराजते हैं। जिनका नित्य दर्शन करने से अत्यंत भारी महिमा और पुण्य मिलता है।

त्रिगुण स्वामी जी की आरती जो कोई नर गावे। स्वामी जो कोई नर गावे। कहत शिवानन्द स्वामी मनवांछित फल पावे॥ ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा॥

Whosoever sings this aarti of the Lord of the three gunas, Swami Shivananda says, achieves all their cherished desires.

जो भी मनुष्य तीनों गुणों के स्वामी भगवान शिव की इस आरती का गायन करता है, स्वामी शिवानंद कहते हैं कि वह अपनी मनोवांछित इच्छाओं की पूर्ति पाता है।

He who bestows happiness, removes sorrow, and dispels all obstacles; whose grace and love fill everything with abundance; whose entire body is adorned with radiant vermilion and whose neck shines with a pearl necklace—victory to You, O Lord of auspicious form! Merely by catching a glimpse of You, all heart's desires are fulfilled.
