विद्युद्दामसमप्रभां मृगपतिस्कन्धस्थितां भीषणां कन्याभिः करवालखेटविलसद्धस्ताभिरासेविताम्। हस्तैश्चक्रगदासिखेटविशिखांश्चापं गुणं तर्जनीं विभ्राणामनलात्मिकां शशिधरां दुर्गां त्रिनेत्रां भजे॥
vidyuddāmasamaprabhāṁ mṛgapatiskandhasthitāṁ bhīṣaṇāṁ kanyābhiḥ karavālakheṭavilasaddhastābhirāsevitām | hastaiścakragadāsikheṭaviśikhāṁścāpaṁ guṇaṁ tarjanīṁ vibhrāṇāmanalātmikāṁ śaśidharāṁ durgāṁ trinetrāṁ bhaje ||
Meaning: I worship Durga, radiant like lightning, seated majestically upon a lion, formidable and surrounded by maidens wielding swords and shields, holding in her hands discus, mace, sword, shield, arrow, bow, noose, and gesture of warning, fiery of essence, adorned with the crescent moon, and possessing three eyes.

From the concentrated wrath and light of all divinities emerged the supreme Goddess—bearing Shiva's trident, Vishnu's discus, and Himavat's lion. She pierced the demon's illusion and restored cosmic balance.
Following Sati's self-sacrifice at Daksha's yajna, Lord Shiva carried her sacred body across the earth in grief. To save creation from unhinged dissolution, Vishnu's discus divided the body into sacred fragments. The places where these holy relics touched the soil became the 51 Shakti Peethas, sanctifying the entire subcontinent into a living altar of the Mother.
Observed twice prominently each year (Chaitra and Sharadiya), Navratri commemorates the nine forms of Durga (Navadurga)—from Shailaputri to Siddhidatri. It is a time of spiritual detox, fasting, silence, and intense prayer, concluding with the joyous celebration of Vijayadashami.
